I gotta tell you: this has been an odd/random/interesting 7-8 days at work all thanks to:
- Operation “Save the Fishes”
- East Coast Earthquake 2011 (how random was that!?)
- Hurricane Irene 2011 (more to come on Ms. Irene; suffice it to say: working in the hospitality industry presents some interesting scenarios wrt to disaster planning)
- Operation “Save Mickey”
Scenarios 2 & 3: Eh. Natural disasters are so passé.
Scenarios 1 and 4 had me in stitches thanks to my lively, spirited, and take-charge team.
Funny Scenario 2
See Mickey all the way towards the right hand side of the box |
A mouse trap was placed in the cubicles outside of my office. The same passionate, unapologetic, PETA card carrying animal lover on my team came to my office this morning looking absolutely mortified. My heart dropped as I feared something had happened. I asked what was wrong. She proceeded to explain that a mouse was caught in the mouse trap. Of course I didn’t immediately understand the problem (I love animals but I have my limits; I was totally fine w/Mickey being in the mouse trap). It quickly became apparent she was troubled by the thought of the mouse meeting an untimely death. I went to look at the mouse and, I must say, the little fella was kinda cute. It was tiny and looked like a baby. My heart slightly melted. Operation Mickey was launched. The goal? To have Mickey released into the field on the side of the building. The Facilities team is responsible for collecting traps (and disposing however they see fit). Given that they were busy today prepping for that small thing called Irene, they were unable to respond as quickly as normal. Therefore, I’m honestly not sure how this story ended (as the rest of my day was focused on business contingency planning) so I’ll follow up later. Needless to say, this was a source of entertainment in an otherwise tense day. Have a look at the picture of Mickey and the note that was left in an effort to secure his proper release into the wild.
These are things that make me love my team and further appreciate my current station in life.
That is all. Stay dry, my friends.
