Yes, pigs have flown.
And the underworld has frozen over.
For the past 24 hours, I’ve been responsible for a small person. And they have survived!!
(well, so far; she’s still in my care for another few hours)
One of my most awesomest classmates was in need of a babysitter and yours truly stepped up to the challenge. Between last night and today, I managed to feed a little person, put her to bed, wake her up, get her ready for school, do her hair, feed her breakfast, get her to the school bus, and pick her up. Ok, quiet as it’s kept, she’s one of the smartest, most mature little persons I’ve ever met so she did most of those things herself, but that’s neither here nor there. 🙂
The point remains that I was responsible for another person and it gave me some real insight…
- Insight into the lives of my classmates who are moms, dads, husbands, and wives in addition to playing the role of “Darden first year”, “Darden second year”, “section rep”, “club president”, etc.
- Insight into the extra demands on working moms/dads
- Insight into what it means to not think only of yourself but to care for and put the needs of others before your own
Plenty of my classmates are faced with that challenge already. The rest of us will have to deal with that at some point in the future. My Adventures in Babysitting evening was a great reminder that, well, this is not about me.
And, I had a blast watching:
- Dr. Dolittle 2
- The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl
- Phineas and Ferb
- The Suite Life on Deck
Off to play Uno!

This is such a cute post! While some people long for the days of Disney movies and potty training, like myself, it is good to see that you embraced it as well 🙂
