My fitness journey has been just that…a journey. And it started a little over a year ago…
I woke up one day, looked in a mirror, and thought “who the heck is that???” I was 30lbs over my pre-baby weight…and growing. Newsflash: I no longer had babies. I had a four year old and a two year old. Claiming “baby weight” was a stretch. In fact, I had actually gained 10 of those pounds well AFTER Reagan’s first birthday. Sure, some of my weight gain may have been due to the normal postpartum hormone craziness (i.e. I stopped breastfeeding as she turned one so there were the usual swings that happen when a woman stops nursing). Some of my weight gain was likely due to aging (slowing metabolism). And some of it was, perhaps, my (unwise) choice to drink wine w/every meal as if it were water (hey…if Jesus can turn water into wine…same-same, no?).
Enough!
Though my weight gain was gradual, there were signs that it was happening. My clothes started fitting a little tighter (I legit stopped going to one dry cleaner because I was convinced they shrank my pants). My face was a little fuller. I didn’t like the way I looked in pictures so I stopped taking them–you will find very few pics of me from 2017 through early 2019. I was uncomfortable in every sense of the word and I finally decided it was time to take action. In June of 2018, I engaged a personal trainer and thus started this journey.
Over the last 15 months, I have had highs and I have had lows—most of which I will unpack over time in subsequent posts. I was sidelined three times due to health issues and/or injuries. I’ve switched trainers a few times. I’ve modified meal plans. I’ve modified my routine. It. Has. Been. A. Ride. Part frustrating. Part motivating. All rewarding.
So Where Are We Now
I took the summer off. Not deliberately. But…life.
In this week of “new beginnings” for my brood, I had my own: New coach. New meal plan. New training plan. New gym. It felt good to be back in the fitness saddle and I look forward to continued progress.
Over time, I’ll share my journey–everything from frustratingly slow weight loss to digestive issues to injuries. Lastly, I’ll also share the wins and rewards–mental, emotional, and physical–all while chronicling progress towards my goals.
Here’s to new beginnings…again.
