As usual, I don’t even know where to begin. Really. A month has passed since my last post (1 month = dog years in my world) and so much has happened; there’s too much to say. So, I’ll make best efforts to capture the salient and then setup for next time.
- Managing a hospitality business during a pandemic is tough AF. Period. I’m fortunate, however, to be surrounded by a team of seasoned professionals and supportive leadership. Together, we’re all doing the best we can to weather these unprecedented times, take care of those entrusted to us (team members and guests alike), and push forward to better days ahead. #bringon2021
- Do you know what else is tough AF during a pandemic??? Finding a home to buy. I haven’t yet. At all. And, it’s causing me agita. A great deal of agita. I’m trying to practice patience. Admittedly, that’s not an inherent virtue I possess. So, it’s been a struggle. Actually, I’m the bus driver. Of the struggle bus. #allaboard.
- Related to the above but worth calling out separately: I would’ve never imagined I would still be looking for a home after four months of searching; would’ve never imagined not being in my own home for the holidays. The Cubs took turns twisting the dagger: “Mommy, how will we have Christmas when our Christmas tree is in storage” and “Mommy, will Santa know where to find us since we don’t have a house yet?” #heartbreak
- (#1 + #2 + #3 + Normal Transition Challenges) – Normal Self-Care Routine = No Bueno. Said differently–my time has been solely prioritized externally: work, family, home search. Accordingly, I’ve had no consistent self-care practice. No gym, no acupuncture, no therapy. The three-legged stool of my stress-management regimen was missing. Not to mention journaling and meditating–my other anchors. In the absence of all of those elements, I started to really feel unsettled.
So, I’m doing something about it.
I’m rebuilding the stool. Exercise and acupuncture in flight. Therapist on deck.
I’m also in the beginning of rebooting my journaling and meditation practice (they’re simpatico for me).
And, I’ve taken a few days off to decompress a bit before the run-up to the year-end holiday frenzy. More to come on this in the next post.

PS: we did get a tree. And some lights. The babies will have a Christmas wherever we are.
