Continuing on Operation: I’m Too Lazy to Write Something Myself…
Stephanie Horvath shared a great speech given by her Ethics professor on the last day of class. Excerpts from her post are below. Click here to read the entire post.
From Professor Venkataraman (aka Venkat):
“You’re probably the top 0.5% of the human population. … It means you can pretty much accomplish anything you want in your life. … It also means you are only limited by your imagination and courage. … It also means you’re very lucky. Think about the luxury of your life and the luxury of your choices….
“You have an obligation to give back to the world. … Will you be a principled business leader? I don’t know. … It requires you to be better and more imaginative than the previous generation. … You have to be willing not to be captivated by authority. … If there is one thing that will hold you back, it is the fear of failure. …
“The choice here is between being a turkey and an eagle. … We don’t need more turkeys. Yes, sometimes the life of a turkey can be good. … But most of the time, they come back to roost. … Don’t stay a turkey for too long. You may become too fat and happy. …
“You are eagles because you are in this room. … If you enter the corporate world, don’t stay too long in dead-end corridors. … I know you will succeed materially. I hope you succeed substantially.”
